Outdoor Solar Lights – The Green Choice for Lighting

by GuestPoster on December 24, 2009

If you have watched the news lately, you know that renewable and alternative energy is a very hot topic right now.  Everyone, including the President, is talking about how we can all help save the planet by reducing our carbon footprint and lowering the amount of green house gasses in the atmosphere.  The problem is that many of the renewable technologies are expensive, and in the current economy, most people are not able to spend the money that it takes to install solar panels or other renewable system in their home.

One way that you can get in on the green revolution without spending an arm and a leg is by installing outdoor solar lights.  These lights are relatively inexpensive, provide great lighting for your landscape, and do not require any energy other than what they produce themselves.

The design of solar garden lights is fairly simple, and consists of three main components: the solar cell, battery, and light.  The solar absorbs rays from the sun, and converts them into energy.  This energy is stored in the battery during the day, and then when it gets dark, the battery powers the light.  The beauty of solar powered garden lights is that the do not require any electricity or wiring, and are easy to install right where you need them.

The most important thing to remember when installing your solar landscape lights is to make sure they get plenty of direct sunlight during the day.  Solar lights that are placed where less sun is available will not get enough energy to fully charge the battery, which means they will not be able to light up for as long at night, and will not be as bright when they are on.

So if you want to help the environment while still lighting up your yard or garden, you should seriously consider outdoor solar lights-you won’t be disappointed!
