Kids Curtains Fabric | Children’s Window Curtains

Decorating a child’s room can be a fun activity for both the child and parent. Curtains can be used to define a style that the child likes. The window treatment can complement wallpaper and carpeting, or can become a dominant decorative element that is supported by accessories. When selecting curtain fabric for kids’ rooms, consider several variables that will make the selection easier and the result more satisfying.

Should the children’s curtain material be easy-care, such as machine-washable cottons and blends, or are dry-cleaned only fabrics acceptable? Dry-clean only fabrics such as silks and velvet are more elegant, and fabrics like organdy and chintz have a crispness that may not be easy to maintain after washing. Interesting textures like burlap and fun patterns are more visually appealing and create a pleasant atmosphere.

Complex drawing systems using cords and tracking may be difficult for young ones to use, and cords pose a danger to very small children. Eyelets and rings are easy for children to manipulate.

Are multiple layers of curtains needed, such as blackout or light-blocking curtains, sheers and decorative draperies? Using multiple tiers allows several functions to be fulfilled. Light-blocking curtains can be helpful for light sleepers, or appreciated by teens who may sleep during daytime hours. Sheers help bring in light and warmth when needed, but don’t provide privacy. Decorative curtains add to the enjoyment of color, pattern and design.

What is your budget for children’s window curtains? How often do you plan to replace the curtains? Investing in better quality materials is worthwhile if you plan to use the curtains for more than a year or two. However, your child may enjoy a variety of patterns and want more than one set of curtains for use throughout the year. Sets of different thicknesses can complement seasonal changes. Lightweight curtains allow fresh air and sunlight into the room in springtime. Cold winters may demand an insulated curtain to keep out drafts and cold air.

Shopping for ready-made curtains for kids rooms or curtain material with your child helps to ensure that the patterns and color are to the child’s liking. Ready-made curtains are easier, but custom-made curtains often offer more options. Adding trim and baubles to ready-made curtains can help create a unique look.
